Hello subscribers! Thank you for signing up – particularly since I’ve had no content for a year! In November 2022, I created this Substack in case Twitter became unusable. While I am planning to remain on Twitter until the bitter end, I want another place to share ideas, announcements, and essays. So welcome to my newsletter!

I spent the last year writing a book, THE LAST AMERICAN ROAD TRIP, which will be published sometime in early 2025. It’s a mixture of travelogue, history, and memoir, and somewhat of a departure from my previous books in that it’s not as singularly focused on current crises. If you liked the travelogue sections of HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT or THEY KNEW, you will like THE LAST AMERICAN ROAD TRIP. It covers all-American family road trip destinations like Route 66, Yellowstone, and the Mena, Arkansas airport where political officials trafficked drugs during the Iran-Contra affair. You know, the usual stuff!

I am new to Substack and still figuring out how it works, so this post is somewhat of a test run. However, I am planning to publish articles here on a frequent basis. While working on THE LAST AMERICAN ROAD TRIP, I realized how much I missed writing regularly, and having my work published in the moment instead of a year later as a book. Since the mainstream media is tanking, a newsletter seems the best way to do that -- so here I am.
